Opinion.
We should not treat this term as an absolute privilege. As it is true that we
have the right to our own opinions, we should also realize the fact that
opinions are merely subjective in nature and therefore no one has the right to
impel such to contain other people’s decision and view about a particular
matter.
An
intelligent opinion should be based on facts, basic principles or fundamental
truths and not just purely on personal judgment. In the court of law, an
opinion is inadmissible to prove the substance of a fact unless otherwise you
are considered amicus curiae wherein one’s personal knowledge and opinions are
given special consideration just like for instance one is a doctor or have the
expertise over a certain subject matter.
An
Editorial column is also called an Opinion section. This is where a qualified
staff of a newspaper makes his intellectual view over an important issue of the
society. Here, although it is only an opinion, basic principles are still taken
into consideration in order to conform to the standards embodied in the
doctrine of fairness and equality. Many have already been subjected to lawsuits
due to some indiscriminate use of opinions may that be in the form of writing
or verbal in nature.
There
are some people who are unceasingly fond of making unsolicited advices and
opinions. These kinds of people are the lovers of arguments and would not want
to settle a dispute in few sentences. I am fan of these kinds of people because
if there’s one thing I love the most aside from eating; it is the habit of
hearing nonsense. Just kidding.
Some people are just too confident about their capacity to
make unwarranted opinions over things beyond their line of control. We should
learn the fact that for every freedom there is a corresponding liability; that
there is a more important thing than exercising the power of opinion and that
is to value respect for others.
There’s I guess nothing wrong in giving opinions and
advices. We just have to keep in mind these three things: PROPER JUDGMENT and
KNOWLEDGE, LIMITATION and most importantly, RESPECT.
